Relax Renewed

relax-200412.gif

According to rumor and hearsay, the old editor-in-chief of Relax magazine has moved up the ladder to the top spot at Brutus.

Someone new has come in, and Relax has gotten a face lift and new direction. I really liked the old design and content, and I am pretty unimpressed with the December 2004 issue I just saw. I know that all that Skateboard Art/Graffiti/Air Force One Limited Edition stuff is on the out, but why replace it with... nothing?

Maybe it was just that the whole issue was about food. I never really get the urge to read about food. I just eat it.

That's funny, I don't eat food, I just read about it!

Asahiya is the only place i've been able to regularly find relax in nyc. it gets other place's but can take months. bla.
and, someone enlighten me.. whats with japanese people.. and food? how many j-blogs are therr out there, where people just take pitcures of food, and then talk about it. i mean its "cute" and what not. but for a country that is very not fat.. there is alot of food talk. i think da-vid, should change his alias to "the food"..

As for food, I really miss the excellent EAT magazine (design + food = beautiful content), which died earlier this year. A real shame.

Regarding RELAX, the last issue with the old editor was the all "Men's Column" issue (the one that was black and white only). I had a look at the first issue with the new editor (from last month), and it didn't make much of an impression on me. Seems to want to be like every other style magazine out there.

Relax is dead. My fav magazine is dead. It struck me hard, that glossy front page. I already miss Relax. My fav magazine.

Yes I've noticed there's been a big change at Relax too. That used to be one of my favourite magazines in Japan (or anywhere else).

Fortunately Brutus is still good.
