Oddly enough I had just been looking at that site recently, but for completely unrelated reasons
(I was reading something about one of Markus Popp's recent projects).
Small world network isn't it.
Naturally we all tend to deconstruct our negative reviews and let the positive ones stand as they are. But I was a little puzzled by this:
"To enhance his crafty, rich '60s revivalism, Marx also employs the futuristic timbres of synthesizers and drum machines, introducing a more contemporary effect that keeps vampiric retro excess at bay."
Surely "the futuristic timbres of synthesizers and drum machines" is an 1980s retro reference, and therefore no less "vampiric" for a 21st century artist to use than any 1960s chamber pop reference?
Posted by: Momus at June 17, 2005 8:58 PMI certainly understand your sentiment, Momus, but perhaps the idea is that a lot of 60s chamber pop revivalists refuse to the suck the blood of anything not in the original "canon." In other words, I am not a "purist" for 60s stuff like a lot of other artists. I don't know if this necessarily leads to a value judgment, but it's an accurate description.

Posted by: calico at June 22, 2005 9:03 PMShugo's CD "Night Piece" should be available at most places (he is distributed through MAP). His new CD is coming out at some point in the near future.
There is a copy of my CD at the boutique IVY in Daikanyama. Otherwise, ordering online is your best bet.
