Rydeen
![]() | I had always thought that Y.M.O.'s "Rydeen" sounds like video game soundtracks, but in reality, video game soundtracks sound like "Rydeen." |

What do you think of "Technodon"?

Clearly a case of video games have shown us (the self titled YMO album) and now we'll show you.
"Technodon" seemed appropriate to where they left off, in other words they pretty much were on par with a lot of leading synth-pop acts by the time they did "Service", they weren't exactly really breaking new ground, and they more or less did something on par with early 90s acts like the Orb and Bill Laswell when they came back. (both were hired to do remixes)
I can see why it dissapointed fans of "Solid State Survivor" when they got the next thing after "Service" though anyone who listened to their solo works from that period had a pretty good idea what they's get or not get.
FWIW - if you want to hear something closer to "Solid State Survivor" circa 1993 check out P-MODEL's borg like construction "P-MODEL"

Actually RYDEEN was a used in a coin-op videogame !
It was used in full in SEGA's Super Locomotive (1982) which was a very rare game. I have a PCB and it sounds VERY like YMO's track.

Thanks for that info.

If memory serves, YMO's Harumi Hosono composed music for a number of early video games (which company/companies I don't recall, maybe Namco?), later compiled on two CDs, now out of print...

Ah yes, it was Namco (Pac-Man, Mappy, Pole Position, Dig Dug, Galaga, etc), though my description of Hosono's involvment was apparently a bit off...

says:
A full length album of early-ish arcade game music and sound effects from Namco. This was the first full album of this kind of music, now a whole genre in Japan. Hosono arranges and produces (does not compose) ... There is a Volume II, Return of Video Game Music that Hosono did not work on.

Everyone should listen to "Rydeen"! It's not just paying your dues, it's about fighting oppression.
Cheerio, carry on!
