Backstreet's Back, Alright.
The thesis is now at the binder, and I am ready to give my heart and soul back to the Internet.
By the way, I believe that my thesis contains the worst pick up line of all time: is the perceived homogeneity in Japan determined fully by the racial-linguistic unity associated with the Japanese nation or is it a byproduct of market structural forces pushing towards cultural stability for the continued success of rationalized production logics?

you forgot to include the word "ultimate"

is this thing going to have english and japanese versions?
if there isn:t a japanese version, how on earth are your profs going to be able to actually GRADE you on this?

As they said in "I Got A Man", "You can't get a girl like me with a line like this"

You had me at "perceived homogeneity."
You
had me
at "perceived homogeneity"!

Let me guess, your essay argues the second one more?
Posted by: Yaten at January 8, 2006 3:05 AM
first i just thought you made this site to degrade japanese and their business industry(and by all mean, i respect your opinion).
But i cant help but to say, everything you do seem to be about them, even your thesis. Unless you live in Japan,(if so then ill take back what i say) you have issues.
- and good luck on your thesis, hope the grader isnt japanese, or else you are screw

the chicken or the egg ?
If you're going to be glib, you better back that up with an explanation of how racial/linguistic unity affects Japanese production logics, seeing that the organizational goals of the jimusho make perfect rational sense in any national context. I will say that the Japanese consumer environment certainly allows companies to get away with more production process rationalization, but now you have to tell me why.
...Sorry, Im still thinking about what that guy wrote about his friend eating her vomit.
Let us never speak of that story again.

My professors can read English. I don't think that they're going to read all 128 pages though. I wouldn't.
Let me guess, your essay argues the second one more?
No, I argue that the one-fold eyebrow leads to different aural perceptions of music. And then I have a chapter on how blood type causes consumer patterns.
first i just thought you made this site to degrade japanese and their business industry
Well, no.
Unless you live in Japan,(if so then ill take back what i say) you have issues.
I live in Japan, but yes, I have issues.
and good luck on your thesis, hope the grader isnt japanese, or else you are screw
Yes, all Japanese people are required to be rabidly pro-oligopoly and pro-entry barrier. Just like all Americans love Bush.

sigh... grad students....

Hee hee. Well, at least you're honest. Anyway, now that the thesis is done and dusted, are you going to keep flogging the same theoretical hobbyhorse here, or move onto fresh pastures?
Posted by: Jrim at January 8, 2006 2:35 PM
That's easy. I'd say the latter.

an explanation of how racial/linguistic unity affects Japanese production logics
Marxy, you have just dropped a pearl so I must ask you: can I use the expression "Japanese production logics" as a song name (I've googled it and you seem to be first person to use this term, at least online)? It would make a much better title than The Cure's Japanese Whispers I reckon.

How much does Johnny's figure into the word count?
Does Momus get a mention?
Will you be putting it up for d/l (or posting some highlights)?
What's next?

david, can i get a copy of this? i'd love to read it. (i'd be happy to pay for it.)

I'd like to do a blog post summary of it in the near future and those who are itching for more may contact me about reading the whole thing. If you're into rough, unpublished master's theses, you're going to love this one.
Posted by: marxy at January 10, 2006 2:57 PM
actually, at the moment, i really do happen to be into rough, unpublished thesis.
Posted by: r. at January 10, 2006 4:45 PM
I think marxy overestimates the power or influence of the, say, 'industrial-commercial complex' of Japan, but it's a good point.
BTW, perceived homogeneity... 見かけ上の均質性?
