Today's Vocabulary Lesson: 日猶同祖論
日猶同祖論 (にちゆうどうそろん; nichiyuu dousoron): "hypothesis that Jews and Japanese are of common ancestry"
*note: 「猶」is the kanji used to represent the Jewish people, from 「猶太」(ゆだや;yudaya) "Judea, Jewish people."

On English wikipedia, some nutcase added a section about this in the Shinto article, but I sort of edited it down to the bare minimum reference to appease him/her. I'd imagine it's still in there, though I haven't checked the page in a long time.

If the Japanese didn't descend from the Jews, where in the world would they have come from?!
Posted by: marxy at April 2, 2006 6:19 PM
Wait a minute, I thought it was the indians(sorry, native americans) that were descended from jews?
Really, how can people be so silly. Oh yes, religion, or idiotic-dogmatic ideology.

Hi Marxy,
Sorry to post this here, but I wasn't able to find your email address on the site.
First let me say that I really like your music, which is why I decided to purchase your CD.
However, I've run into very annoying trouble with Beekeeper Records, who are supposed to be distributing you album "Kyoshu Nostalgia", but are doing a VERY bad job.
I ordered the CD from them over six weeks ago, but it hasn't arrived yet. I wrote to them three weeks ago and they said they had trouble with a certain batch of CDs and they would ship mine again the next day. However another three weeks have passed but no CD, and they have also stopped replying to emails. I'll be glad to forward you the thread if you give me your address.
So, 13$ gone (10 + 3 for shipping), very frustrating experience, and I still can't listen to your music!
I'll be glad to hear if you have any suggestions about how to resolve this, but I also understand you can't be responsible for third party's actions... Anyway I wouldn't work with them anymore if I were you.
All the best, and thanks for the only track of you rs that I do know and love very much ("neoplasticism vs. de stijl"),
Roy

Ancestry differs from descendence, in the same way as origin differs from lineage.
So what's the problem here? after all... don't we all descend from adam's snake?

word.
Anyone checked out the grave of Jesus Christ up in Aomori? No foolin'!
Posted by: Rory P. Wavekrest at April 3, 2006 6:10 PM
yep. us Aomoricans all know the tale of how jesus secretly switched places with his brother, and came to Herai where he settled down and married a nice japanese woman.
In a sense, he was the prototype for the 21st century alienated westerner.

Yeah, I think I saw him at GasPanic once all crunked up.

I think you mean Jesus (pronounced Hey-zeus). If you see that guy, tell him David wants his 10000 yen paid back. Dude assures me his next Nova paycheck is coming and then splits the country. Betcha ten bucks I run into him at the Hub later.

^too late i think David will never see his money back, since Jesus just got run over by a bus...

Yah, personally speaking, at least, I just can't get enough of the "Japanese are of the same ancient stock as 誰々" theories. Think back to all the mileage that ideologues got out of 日鮮同祖論 right up until 1945! Wacky fun, I tell ya ...
