Golden Girls Week

Hi, everybody.

My name is Marxy. You may know me from my writing on Neomarxisme.

This week is Golden Week (GW) in Japan, where we get three days off in a row. We find this much superior to taking an entire month off in summer. Mostly because we prize organizational and corporate dedication greater than our families and friends and health. Think about it: when is the last time your girlfriend or your gall bladder paid you back for a cab ride? Once I fill out the appropriate forms and get my divisional chief's signature, my firm pays me back for all work-related transportation expenses. That, my friends, is the true meaning of commitment.

During GW, I will move out of Setagaya-ku and into somewhere else in Tokyo. Accordingly, I will be unable to post my post-posts for a short while. I recommend reading The Internet for more information on your favorite topics during my absence.

Thank you,
Wroe Danforth Marks aka "Marxy"

Marxy spilling his bile again on Neomarxisme.

Think about it: when is the last time your girlfriend (...) paid you back for a cab ride?

I wonder if she would get upset if she read this line.

And it's not the first time you complain about something of that nature. Take it easy on her, mate!

Although likely too arduous, given the commute, I found the Hachioji/Takao area to be a beautiful location for raising a family.

Love the mountains...

Have a good move! (It's a shame you're leaving Tokyo's hottest upcoming new youth area, though. Had you chosen to stay, you could perhaps have given us unsarcastic eyewitness reports on exciting new developments in style and culture, portending great things for Japan's future. Nah, on second thoughts, just move.)

Ah, once again Dzima doesn't get my satirical tone.

(I get the sense we would get a long in real life, but damn this blasted internet.)

Posted by: marxy at May 3, 2006 1:02 AM

By the way, my gall bladder paid me back very generously for my last Tokyo taxi ride.

Posted by: Momus at May 3, 2006 2:43 AM

(In bile, which is the currency of gall bladders.)

For anyone else who constantly visits my site to publicly scold me (and or lecture me in a brotherly manner), please take the time to consider the tone of my pieces so that you do not embarass yourself by falling from your high horse.

At least Momus gets it and throws me clever jabs.

So what's the minimum IQ in order to participate in this public forum? Please forward to my email any other requirements that may exist (i.e. work experience, academic education, social class, annual income, level of Japanophilia, pro/anti-Americanism, aptitude to sarcasm, spelling proficiency, horse riding skills, etc).

Actually Neomarxism is taking a toll on me and I'll have undergo surgery in order to remove gallstones due to the stress caused by this blog. Should I send you a bill covering all costs?

Germans don't do irony, you know.

Posted by: der at May 3, 2006 4:39 AM

Which doesn't mean they don't have a sense of humour.

For example, Beuys was funny at times or he wouldn't be in Fluxus, but he was also serious and intense.

Marxy, did you move all the way to Japan only to sharpen up your sarcasm skills? If so, the civilisation clash is going to continue here: I'm firmly with the Germans and Japanese here while you revel in your British-American Coalition of Willing. Like in World War II, we know who wins in the end.

*credits roll*

This was another lecture from Bruder Dziminski. Thanks for attending

move safely.

do people bother with the tea towels down there? I forgot mine on the way in to this place, ultimately leading to a confrontation over snow shoveling.

Good luck moving. I recently moved from an alley-facing office to a street-facing office. Since I work a block from the White House, the 5+ times daily motorcades get kind of annoying. But that's not as bad as the honest-to-god political sound trucks driven by supporters of the ultra-left Lyndon Larouche that play FDR's "nothing to fear but fear itself" speech over and over. I suspect this is a new phenomenon here in Washington, but I can't be sure.

aber Arbeit macht frei. marxy wieso das ganze Iapan hat etwa zehn tage golden week und du und deine manschaft nur drei tage?

Posted by: alin at May 3, 2006 10:16 AM

im Welt der 公務員en hat niemand mal drei Tage. diese Recht zum zehn Tage gibts nur bei den Studenten und JET-en. Meine arme freundin kriegt nur ein Tag.

Arbeit macht frei

Classy reference.

Posted by: marxy at May 3, 2006 1:22 PM

Das muβ wirklich ein goldenes Tag sein fur deine arme Freundin.
Also die Millionen auf dem Autobahn, im Flughafen usw. sind alle Studenten und JETen. Ich wuβte es nicht. Eine Überraschung.

Posted by: alin at May 3, 2006 1:33 PM

is alin german too? I though he was from a more "indie" country. then again in my experience, only people from eastern europe and american urban centers reference the holocaust so blithely.

(and speaking of german and all the other posters, anyone know how much German momus managed before giving up?)

Posted by: nate at May 3, 2006 2:08 PM

again this turns out to be america vs. rest of the world + a zelig-like momus.

Posted by: alin at May 3, 2006 2:47 PM

being american is the new racism. if someone can provide evidence to make the charge stick, your viewpoints will only be regarded in relation to that one point.
the observation that one neednt have 10 days off to go on vacation, clearly the kind of thought only an american would come up with, and an aggressive attack on the non-ascendant nations and ideologies of the world. maybe if I read enough books about the polymorphous sexuality of old french men, I'll learn to fake multicultural thought.

Nate, it looks like you haven't done your homework. I suggest you go back to Neomarxisme 101, the october readings. It's actually the Harajuku pseudo-punks who top that list.

Posted by: alin at May 3, 2006 10:47 PM

to draw a very fine line, the harajuku punks don't reference the holocaust. they wear an ill considered symbol, one that they associate less with gas chambers than punk rock. the holocaust is inferred.

people in polish and czech cafes ask a stranger (me) if he hates living in a country ruled by jews, and note with a sense of pride how few jews are left in their countries.

but I don't mean to pick an internet fight, that no one could possibly care about. I've got the whole ten days off, and I've planned nothing but studying. so I'm really prone to distraction.

Posted by: nate at May 4, 2006 8:31 AM

Um, since when did Americans get a month off in the summer? Two weeks is closer to the average in the States.

Marxy sounds downright European in this post (please adjust any knee-jerk anti-Americanism accordingly).

PS: RIP JK Galbraith

I've got the whole ten days off,

lucky you; just enjoy.

Why are we always comparing Japan to the U.S.???

Posted by: marxy at May 4, 2006 2:26 PM

Also, if we're revisiting classic neomarxisme themes, it's a perfect time to check out this group burning up the charts:

Patrick Macias' indepth Gosperats coverage has already beaten me to the punch.

Why are we always comparing Japan to the U.S.???

壱億円 question. i wonder who started it?

Posted by: alin at May 4, 2006 3:46 PM

how did such a non-inflamatory post end up with such a long thread?

I myself am cherishing my 3 days off and wouldnt trade em for the two french work weeks I put in every monday to friday. These three days are being spent studying for a professional exam and in private self flagilation for all of my work related short comings.

It sounds like you have finally learned that from me, young Marxy. Though you're a few months (or years) late of course.
