Incredible. I've been following this for a while, simply incredible.
I only commented because of the Jock Jams comment. From henceforth, silence will be my M.O.

So is there anything "good" about mop-face?
And are any of the other candidates any better?

Fukuda seems to be more rational/consilatory towards Asia - but he is far less attractive.

Most Japanese are too busy with daily life to notice that this man eats babies. That's what I tell myself anyway.

And don't forget Abe's role in forcing alterations to NHK's comfort women documentary. What will happen to press freedom on his watch? If his alarming popularity holds, we may find out soon enough:

As far as the beauty contest goes, doesn't Fukuda at least have a little wonky charm in his favor? He's got kind of a Muppet thing going on, as opposed to stone-faced Abe...

give him a few years and he is gonna have some mighty jowels!

I had no idea that he was such an outward prick. I mean, I suspected as much, but....
Then again, the most I've heard about him was from a former student whose husband was schoolboy chums with Abe. She told me about how her husband drummed up support for Abe in the last election either with friendly encouragement or threats. Her daughter told me that the father threatened punishment if she and her similarly apathetic brother not head right over to the polls to cast their vote LDP.
They later had a party after Abe won the election, but as much as I tried, I didn't get invited.

my god, and his hair is so boring.
Au contraire, his hair's pretty interesting. What's with that parting, so high up it's almost a middle parting? What does it signify?

He looks like zombie Jon Arbuckle. So undead and bland. That's double boring, people.
What I keep hearing about Abe isn't necessarily that he's a typically scary LDP guy (LDP Diet Affair Chairman Hidenao Nakagawa is similarly Moonie-friendly, btw) but more that he has *no ideas* beyond vamping about NK and China and general support for right-wing causes. At least Koizumi talked the talk about reform, but so far it's pretty clear that Abe will preside over a backtracking on faction/policymaking reform simply because he doesn't give a damn.

but looking on the bright side, i can see a couple of good points about a japan under Abe;
* bucking international trends - while the rest of the axis of idiots backs away from the right wing nutjobs we've had tapping our phones for the last few years, japan throws caution to the wind and elects its first "pre-emptive strike" PM since 1941. Progress!
* "winter biz" - solving dual problems of heating bills & the growing mountains of dead whale catch in the government freezer, Abe introduces whale-blubber suits for all bureaucrats. suck on that one, matthew barney

my god, and his hair is so boring.

i think any hair is boring after koizumi's.

let's not blame him for what his grandfather did...

You people sound dumb. Shinzo Abe is the greatest thing ever to happen to Japan. You need to show some respect.
