I Didn't Say It #1

So often my arguments get destroyed wholesale for the fact that they come out of my mouth. In response, I offer you a new series at neomarxisme entitled, "I Didn't Say It."

「週刊誌のアンケートなんて、ほとんどがヤラセだから、あたしは、イマイチ信用してない。」
"Those surveys in the weekly magazines are mostly faked (yarase), so I don't quite believe this one."

- Kikko discussing a recent Shuukan Bunshun poll which asked women to name the female entertainers they hated the most. She also has a long analysis of Ogura Yuko's contrived usage of her own name in self-reference, which her handlers added onto her persona to make her seem more infantile.

There was a (seemingly) faked survey in a young mens fashion magazine I read that proposed to be a survey of a few hundred women about their sexual habits and wishes. Well, I assume fake, but maybe 70% of young Japanese women really want a threesome, and more than half are eager to try anal sex. A women's magazine I read on the same subject seemed to suggest some really, really different numbers.

It strikes me that it was intended to be used by young men as a tool to pressure their girlfriends into doing something that "everyone thinks is normal". Which, I admit, is pretty clever, both for selling magazines, and manipulating women into things they wouldn't normally want to do.

I saw a sex poll in Hot Dog Press back when I worked at Kodansha that had similar numbers: "number who want to have sex with a foreigner: 7%" compared to the anal sex crew at 30% or so.

Numbers are objective and paint the voice of the people - how can you resist!

Uranai - um, they just make it up?

They consult the stars. And then the production companies.

um, they just make it up?

they often touch quite spot-on on nihon no switch which suggests a complex process. (in yamanotesen uranai i'm sooo ebisu it's uncanny :-)
