i'm wondering

why my portable tape machine is so cool... yet so useless.
but beyond that. i've had this week off, and have spent to much time reading music blogs. i hate to complain. (though not enough, cause here i am) and obviously, people are going to take it the wrong way. what with me running a label n' all. but lets just try and pretend i don't. is it just me, or are music blogs just shillin' anymore? when was the last time you went to a music blog, or review site, and didn't already know everything that was on there? you may have not heard it. (probably for good reason). but you know of the people being reviewed, or in the "news" (though are tour date and album release announcements really news?)
anyways. just wondering. is it just me? i can't think of the last time i found good new music from a blog or website. normally i just listen to my friends, or people from dotshop or p*dis to find good stuff. or am i just to old, and don't get it?

No it's not just you!

I think part of the problem is that the people who read music blogs tend to know a lot about music already. This means that they'll have visited label sites, been on mailing lists, been to gigs etc etc and know most of the news.

People write music blogs because they want to get more people enthused about the music they love, and that's a great thing.

The difficult part is getting the blog to reach people who aren't so aware of the music scene.

We may not change the world, but I do think it's still important to show people what great music is around.

i agree with everything your saying. but, all these "major" blogs. are just covering pretty much the same thing as each other. and its all what i would call major indie. witch is a bullshit title.. i mean, really.. can we fairly call bloc party, the stroke, or of montreal indie? at this point, music blogs seems to just be blogging about what is safe. what will get readers.. to sell their advertising space. not about exposing new music.. good or bad..

Trevor, you're right there does seem to be little point in blogging about mainstream music, especially when it's all over the radio, on TV etc. A lot of people blog about what they like, and so there's lots of mainstream music blogs around.

I'm with you, I love reading about new music that may not be everyone's cup of tea but it's really hard to find a blog that's worth reading.
