the weather outside...

oh the weather. its been below freezing for pretty much a month here in nyc. though no real complants on my part. i do have to admit to feeling a little locked in. but in the cold and snow. certain cds have been rocking it weather [haha get it?] nicely here at the music related HQ. you should check them out if you can. 1. shugo tokumaru "night peice".. oh snap, you can't get this yet cause were releasing it. amazing. you'll be able to check it soon though. 2. piana "snow bird" more weird japanese pop from nyc? thats right. happy records, headed up by taylor dupree from 12k records gets in the game too. but with weirder stuff then i. great cd though. 3. radio dept. "pulling our weight" love it, gives me chilllllz.. even if the heaters are on! go radio dept. 4. toughluck, trashcan! "voices..." i reviewed this awhile back on spacecom. its been reborn in the snow. 5. + / - {plus / minus} "you are here" sometimes a little to alt rocky. but when they get it right. they get it right. sorta creepy lyrics. but great production. nyc natives, might get stuck with comparisions to interpol. but A) + / - is a gagillion times better, and they were here first. glad everyone in nyc doesn't sound like the strokes or the DFA/rapture around here.. please.. someone kick the DFA out of the nyc area.. ok, ok, "house of jelous lovers" is a good song. but the rest? get out of town!! worst idea since "electroclash" and electroclash was better!!

top five songs of 2003

i've had three weeks or so in 2004 to reflect back on 2003 enough to come up with a list of the best five songs of 2003. IN ORDER, as follows:

1. "you've got me so sexy" - pointercoward
2. "sizzlin'" - crakk
3. "visible panty line (VPL) [dj f*ckin sh*t up and shi* remix]" - ya burnt!
4. "stop it, you!" - chika amagi
5. "hey ya!" - outkast

all in all, a good year. 2004 could be even better just with this new Incorrigible song "$$$".

things change

so i once had this big theory. and i would only do vinyl 7" records on music related. it really seemed like a good idea at the time. i personaly love 7"'s, and think they are completely missed used. they have been so missed used that in general, the public wants nothing to do with them. business dont want anything to do with them. its really all a shame. on a 7". you can fit about 15 minutes worth of music. though most people use them for only 8 or less. on average. most albums [atleast good albums] are 35 minutes or less. so you could confortable put a EP on a 7" record. there is a weight, a reality, and physical interactivity that i like about vinyl records. but for right now. finacialy. 7" are not quite in the books. so we're going to do some CDs. when the time comes again. well do anther split 7". but thats not next. if you read the news page. you know we're going to do some CDs. we're excited about both. first up with be an artist you have never heard before. and makes some very unquie bedroom pop. then finaly, after years and years. pandacrash is going to release their first EP, and we've got it. its going to be a good year me thinks.
